Easy DIY AC Maintenance Tips

While some maintenance tasks require the help of a professional, there are a few simple DIY tips that you can follow to keep your AC unit in top shape.

  1. Clean or Replace the Air Filter:  The  air filter  in your AC unit helps to remove dust, dirt, and other particles from the air before it circulates in your home. Over time, this filter can become clogged, reducing the efficiency of your AC unit. To prevent this, make sure to clean or replace the filter every 1-3 months, depending on how often you use your AC.
  2. Clear Debris from Around the Unit:  Debris such as leaves, branches, and grass clippings can accumulate around your AC unit, blocking airflow and reducing its efficiency. To prevent this, clear any debris from around the unit, and keep it at least 2 feet away from any vegetation.
  3. Check the Drainage Line:  The drainage line is responsible for removing excess moisture from your AC unit. Over time, this line can become clogged with dirt and debris, leading to leaks and water damage. To prevent this, check the drainage line regularly and clear any clogs as necessary.
  4. Inspect the Condenser Coils:  The condenser coils in your AC unit help to release heat from your home. Over time, these coils can become dirty and reduce the efficiency of your AC unit. To prevent this, inspect the coils regularly and clean them with a soft brush or compressed air.
  5. Test the Thermostat:  Your thermostat is responsible for controlling the temperature in your home. If it’s not functioning properly, your AC unit may not be able to cool your home effectively. To prevent this, test your thermostat regularly by setting it to a few degrees lower than the current temperature and checking to see if the AC unit turns on.
